#MileShyClub Coach Ian marries #MileShyClub runner Alison!

Huge congratulations to #MileShyClub runners (and coach!) Ian and Alison who tied the knot yesterday! We were there - we have the sore heads as proof (as well as a photo or two!)

Ian and Alison found the #MileShyClub through our visit 2 years ago to Slimming World St John’s in Flixton The amazing group leader there (Claire!) welcomed us to meet members and we are delighted to have many running with us still today. Ian and Alison went from being running beginners with us to completing 5k and beyond. Ian even ran 5k on the morning of his big day thanks to parkrun UK and he's also now a #MileShy coach!

We had a celebratory Urmston session earlier this week where we did our run session then went out for pizza!

We, like Claire, were super chuffed (bit of a cry chuffed!) to get a special mention from the bride and groom yesterday at the speeches. We also think these pictures speak for themselves too.

Massive congratulations you two.

Volunteer Spotlight: Brand new coach Sue!

Can we just say how super proud we are of new Coach Sue from our Old Trafford club?

Sue started with us at the beginning and didn't believe she could become a coach. It took Sue a little longer than most to get to 5k but what we saw was a lady with a good heart who was respected by members of the Old Trafford community.

We were delighted when Sue agreed to train and it wasn't an easy process thanks to Covid, with essential funding being provided by @EnglandAthletics , delays on start dates of courses and new filming requirements of sessions to qualify! Plus, all our #MileShyClub coaches go through at least 3 months of mentoring at the club which can only happen if we are able to run sessions!

But this little lady has done it. Check out her amazing feedback from England Athletics too!

We had some lovely feedback tonight from one of our regular runners at our Old Trafford club. She was happy for us to share this photo and her comments below, but asked us to withhold her name.

"Coming to #MileShyClub has really changed me as a person; it has made me a better human being.

I'm a lot more confident now in myself and have developed so much more confidence when going outside. I even go out for a run by myself and no longer care what my neighbours think. I never thought I'd feel like that.

My kids and me have step trackers on our watches and I am always at the top! I never thought I'd be fitter than my kids.

I am an Asian woman and proud of what I have achieved. I keep telling my friends to come try out the club, and they're telling me it's not for them but they've started to go out for walks instead and I know I've inspired them to get more active. I really hope one day they'll come along and find as much enjoyment and fulfillment from the club as I do."

Trainee coaches being put through their paces!

Check out trainee coach Jo at our Partington session this evening! Fantastic to see new coaches getting trained by England Athletics and then mentored by our experienced #MileShyClub coaches. We have FOUR new coaches coming through the ranks, currently being mentored across all clubs. What's the most important trait we look for in our coaches? Kindness, patience and understanding.

Wilmslow 10k completed (and England might win the footie this evening!)

Mega well done to our runners at the Wilmslow 10k this morning, what a hot one!

Our runners are shining examples of what can be achieved by working hard and it's just fabulous that they can say, on the day history might be made, that they ran 6.2 miles (10k) in the morning.

That's awesome, don't you think?

Beginner TRAIL running sessions started today!

Our Summer trail runs started today and it was GLORIOUS! We ran through fields, babbling brooks, climbed stiles and even ran (mostly!) up hills! What a fab way to spend a Sunday morning with lots of lovely people too! Mega thanks to coaches Bram and Charlotte for arranging!
