DENNIS YARWOOD
How did you get into running?
First time around I started running cross country at school in an attempt to control my asthma. This led to my first marathon (aged 17) as people said to me "there's no way you could do that!" Ran on and off through my 20s & 30s but life (and the family) took priority. Into my mid-40s and I had reached over 18 stone and decided that I needed to lose some weight and started running again. Fast forward nearly 10 years and running is pretty much a part of everyday life.
What is your favourite event and why?
Probably the Great Manchester 10k as I've done it every year (but one) since it started in 2003. I've ran it dressed as Spiderman, ran as an official Pacer for the 60 minute wave, and marched it with a 60 strong brass band!
What else do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I listen to music, read voraciously, play tuba in a local Scout & Guide band and do a bit of cycling.
