Self defence experts show us their moves to keep our runners safe on darker nights

This evening a group of our runners took up a free self defence class offered by the #MileShyClub and Sale Wado Ryu Freestyle Karate Club.  We learnt so much useful information and tips and tricks on staying safe when out running on our own! The tuition was excellent. Huge thanks to Chris Eaton from Sale Wado Ryu Freestyle karate club and to his colleague Tony who came from his club K.S.D.S (Tel: 07340 950 785). They were patient, kind and thoroughly knowledgeable. We highly recommend you check them out, not just for self defence classes but for martial arts too - adults and children classes! Raising money for St Ann's Hospice by taking on the Gauntlet Games

The #MileShyClub had the most AMAZING morning today. Eight of us took on the Gauntlet Games, raising over £400 for St Ann's Hospice! We ran a little, took on giant water slides, fought off gladiators (it was awful, honest), got stuck in mud, pelted by balls, covered in foam and navigated rafts fearlessly. IT WAS BRILLIANT! Here are just a small selection of some photos and video from the day... (click to view)

The #MileShyClub wins its first award from England Athletics

We are absolutely over the moon to tell you that the we were contacted by England Athletics today and informed that we had WON AN AWARD (!!!) for our innovative work with running beginners. We are receiving the award for our cone and ribbon based system, our warm up games, for our total commitment to our runners when they start and keeping them going, even after reaching 5k, and for our positive wider impact on the community. The Club has been selected from all other (fantastic) North West running clubs for this prestigious award which they will collect at a presentation evening on the 25th of this month. We’re now an award-winning club!

The #MileShyClub goes on the #MileShytour with a visit to Stretford ParkRun!

We had five newbies this morning and many more supporters at Stretford ParkRun today.  What a morning and a wonderfully warm welcome from Stretford ParkRun! HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to ELIZABETH who impressed us all with her gutsy determination to get through her very first ParkRun, to ANDY who took off miles ahead of us and as we expected finished in a great time, to IRAM who isn't even on Facebook but as one of our Tuesday night runners has been super fun to work with and who loved every minute of today, to ELISE who remained steady throughout and finished brilliantly with a smile, and to LISA who ran the entire 5k in one go and can go back to the park in the week with her dogs and say I DID THAT. Great thanks to all our other #MileShyClub runners (and other supporters) who turned up and stayed to cheer all of our beginners through the finish line. A little thank you to to Lisa for the present you bought Jane too!

FlipperMan vs #MileShyClub

Flipping heck! What a GREAT session! FlipperMan joined us today for our warm up and run and he (Craig) told us about his amazing flipper challenge, raising money for The Christie. All money raised today has gone to Craig's fundraising page, and we know loads of you asked for the link to donate so here it is: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/craig-keatley2

Quite possibly our favourite #ParkRun to date!

Today was just FANTASTIC. Honestly, quite possibly one of the best #ParkRuns we've ever done. Newbies Nursel, Debs and MEL(YEAH!!!) did superb.  Jenny, a recent addition to the #MileShyClub had been working hard on improving her times with us, and today proved anything is possible.  She took on her 33rd #ParkRun and smashed her personal best time, coming in at 37 minutes, 30 seconds, a whopping 2 minutes 40 seconds improvement and her first sub-40 minute 5k. Rosie popped up to cheer us on at halfway and is mega inspired to complete her #Mileshy training now and do her first 5k. It was an emotional one today... tears (of success) were shed!
