#MileShyClub to launch in Old Trafford!

We know that a lot of our runners travel in from all areas of Manchester to make our Sale and Urmston sessions. That's why, from the 25th September, we are (yes really!) launching the #MileShyClub in OLD TRAFFORD! How cool is this?!!! We'll be offering new beginner running sessions on a Wednesday evening at 6.30pm at Limelight and there will be free refreshments after for those of us who like a natter. Still just £2 a session. LAUNCH DATE is 3 weeks today - get yourself down to support us, we KNOW this one is going to be popular!

Race for Life return proves moving and memorable

Great morning at #RaceforLife today. Our guys and girls took on the 10k at Heaton Park, but this particular race always means so much more to us than "just another race". Today was not about times, it was about reflecting on those we have loved and lost through cancer, and showing our support for those currently living it. #noonegetsleftbehind Thanks to the Manchester Evening News for taking some great photos of us on the day!

#MileShyClub nominated in Trafford's Volunteer Awards!

We are delighted to have been nominated in this year's Trafford Volunteer Awards! We'll find out if we win at the Trafford Live event taking place on the 21st July, where we will also be providing mini taster sessions to an unwitting public! Come along for a fun day, not just to support us, but to support all the other Trafford organisations which make Trafford such a brilliant place to be! We can't do what we do without our fantastic volunteers!

The #MileShyClub become a CHARITY

MileShyClub Urmston.jpg

We are absolutely chuffed to bits to tell you some amazing news! It is really important to us as a club that the way we look after our members and operate is carried out in a transparent and trustworthy way. We feel it is important for our members to know that when we say we are “not-for-profit”, we really are, and that the £2 paid to us at every session from our lovely runners is used to further the purposes of the club.

So today, we are delighted to announce that the #MileShyClub has become an official charity! This means we are regulated by the Charity Commission and have to meet certain legal duties and responsibilities. It also means that you can see our club on the Register of Charities – our registered charity number is 1183949.

So there you have it. When this club was started on 8th January 2017, club founder Jane wanted to simply do something that made a positive difference to peoples’ lives. So now, as a charity, we can happily and confidently say that the #MileShyClub will always be a charitable venture, now, and in the future :-)

Thanks for supporting us everyone!

Combining fish and chips with a run - perfect!

Coach Bram came up with an absolutely brilliant idea and decided to combine a run with a visit to a local fish and chip shop. Naturally, this proved popular with our members, so much so, that we are doing it all over again for our Urmston group on the 5th June! (meeting 6.30pm at the Bird I’th Hand pub) We had a lovely evening, the weather was kind, and there’s lots of talk now about chocolate runs, milkshake runs, and plogging (running and picking up litter)! Watch this space!

#Runandtalk with the #MileShyClub

We hosted our monthly #runandtalk session last night, which was hosted by Trish and Claire from our Mental Health Support team! These ‘Run Around the Block’ sessions are aimed at those who might have experience of mental health issues, either personally, or as a family member or friend. These non-judgemental sessions are a great way to try out running with a smaller group, and we only cover a mile which can be walked or jogged. The sessions are followed by cake and drinks at a local cafe/bar!

At this session, Trish guided us through breathing techniques and taught us ways we can use our breathing to control our emotional state. Then we heard from Claire, a trained therapist, on some very useful self-care tips.

Our monthly Wednesday runs are advertised on the RunTogether website so check out the future dates and come down and see us!

Our Slimming World journey continues...

We’ve been back at Slimming World this week, speaking at two more groups within Trafford! We absolutely LOVE meeting new people and find that like Slimming World, we support our members and celebrate the wins! It’s great to see friends and family from Slimming World sessions come visit our clubs which are just on their doorstep - what a great way to get healthy and fit together!
