MILESHYCLUB BUDDIES

Running is for everyone. Well, it should be. And we need your help.

Throughout the year, we get enquiries from disabled people wanting to get into running. And most of the time we’ve been able to fulfil that request by getting together some of our runners to be running buddies at parkrun, or by providing runners to offer 1-2-1 support to people with visual impairments. But we really want to do more. “Inclusivity” isn’t a buzz word. It’s a path we choose to walk as an organisation and it’s a word we live by.  We really want to be inclusive – for everyone.

So why not help us? With lighter nights fast approaching, we know that NOW is the time to help support people with visual impairments into running. You do not need to have any experience or qualifications when it comes to supporting someone with a disability.  You just need a willingness to help, and we will support you if needed.

We’re piloting a project in four Manchester boroughs (Trafford, Salford, Manchester and Stockport) where we’ve set up a private and hidden facebook group for anyone who wants to be involved, whether as a helper or a disabled person.  This group will be managed by us to ensure it’s a safe space, and we hope to link up our trusted members with people from the disabled community so that together, we can get more people moving more.
