We are delighted to have been nominated in this year's Trafford Volunteer Awards! We'll find out if we win at the Trafford Live event taking place on the 21st July, where we will also be providing mini taster sessions to an unwitting public! Come along for a fun day, not just to support us, but to support all the other Trafford organisations which make Trafford such a brilliant place to be! We can't do what we do without our fantastic volunteers!
The #MileShyClub become a CHARITY
We are absolutely chuffed to bits to tell you some amazing news! It is really important to us as a club that the way we look after our members and operate is carried out in a transparent and trustworthy way. We feel it is important for our members to know that when we say we are “not-for-profit”, we really are, and that the £2 paid to us at every session from our lovely runners is used to further the purposes of the club.
So today, we are delighted to announce that the #MileShyClub has become an official charity! This means we are regulated by the Charity Commission and have to meet certain legal duties and responsibilities. It also means that you can see our club on the Register of Charities – our registered charity number is 1183949.
So there you have it. When this club was started on 8th January 2017, club founder Jane wanted to simply do something that made a positive difference to peoples’ lives. So now, as a charity, we can happily and confidently say that the #MileShyClub will always be a charitable venture, now, and in the future :-)
Thanks for supporting us everyone!

Combining fish and chips with a run - perfect!
Coach Bram came up with an absolutely brilliant idea and decided to combine a run with a visit to a local fish and chip shop. Naturally, this proved popular with our members, so much so, that we are doing it all over again for our Urmston group on the 5th June! (meeting 6.30pm at the Bird I’th Hand pub) We had a lovely evening, the weather was kind, and there’s lots of talk now about chocolate runs, milkshake runs, and plogging (running and picking up litter)! #Runandtalk with the #MileShyClub
We hosted our monthly #runandtalk session last night, which was hosted by Trish and Claire from our Mental Health Support team! These ‘Run Around the Block’ sessions are aimed at those who might have experience of mental health issues, either personally, or as a family member or friend. These non-judgemental sessions are a great way to try out running with a smaller group, and we only cover a mile which can be walked or jogged. The sessions are followed by cake and drinks at a local cafe/bar!
At this session, Trish guided us through breathing techniques and taught us ways we can use our breathing to control our emotional state. Then we heard from Claire, a trained therapist, on some very useful self-care tips.
Our monthly Wednesday runs are advertised on the RunTogether website so check out the future dates and come down and see us!
A cooler Manchester 10k for 2019 and lots of smiles!
We were so thankful that after the heat of 2018, we were able to come back with a vengeance to this race and run away with a whole list of personal bests! Well done to everyone who took part, it was great to see those who had put in the training being rewarded with great times! We will of course be back next year!
Our Slimming World journey continues...
We’ve been back at Slimming World this week, speaking at two more groups within Trafford! We absolutely LOVE meeting new people and find that like Slimming World, we support our members and celebrate the wins! It’s great to see friends and family from Slimming World sessions come visit our clubs which are just on their doorstep - what a great way to get healthy and fit together!
Brooks and Run North West come visit!
Massive thank you to Brooks and Run North West who paid an early visit to our Tuesday evening session so that our runners got to “try before you buy” some awesome trainers! We certainly enjoyed trying out the new treads during our 5k session! We’ll look forward to welcoming you back soon!
The #MileShyClub #GetInspired and are featured as part of BBC London marathon coverage
We were super delighted to feature in the latest BBC #GetInspired campaign, encouraging everyone to get into running for the first time, using the Couch to 5k app! We loved being part of this initiative - it’s just what we do! Love seeing our runners Jane (blonde ponytail) and Iram (purple ponytail) on our television screens!
Crazy few days - Media City racing, hill training, North Carolina performance and Lyme ParkRun (hell)
Wow the last few days have been EPIC! Thursday was always meant to be low key but quite a few of us turned up at the Media City 5k and 10k race... all our runners completed the 10k and at the same time our Thursday session took on hill training! Then yesterday, Dawn from the club, based in North Carolina in the USA, ran an amazingly fast 5k in 28 minutes! And finally! Whilst you were in bed listening to the rain, a hardy group of us (WHY?!!!) took on one of THE hardest Park Runs - Lyme Park Run - in gale force winds and hail! What a turn out! You know why we do this? It's because no matter where we are, we are always in it TOGETHER and that's why we love it.
Doing it for the guys at the Manchester Marathon
We are so SUPER PROUD of our four #MileShyClub runners who took on the Manchester marathon - Richard, Mark, Gordy and Richard. Apart from Gordy, this was the first ever marathon for our lovely guys and we are delighted to say they all completed it in epic style. Gordy, as usual, completed the race in under 3 hours 30 minutes, Richard was cheered on by his very dedicated girlfriend who appeared at various points around the race (and he nearly cried when he got a standing ovation at the Slug and Lettuce afterwards). David terrified us all when his result showed ‘DNF’ (Did Not Finish) but we were unsurprised to learn that he had stopped to help a fellow runner over the finish line, whilst using his tried and tested method of eating cake to get round. He did finish the race (and the cake)! Then there’s our Mark, injured at the start, injured along the way, but still pulling in an outstanding performance and completing his longest ever run, cheered on by his family. Amazing achievement guys, well done!
Oh! And huge well done to the 30 or so volunteer marshalls from the Club who looked after a 6 mile route along the course - these races do not happen without your help, although rumour has it next year some of the girls who marshalled this year are making a comeback and plan to join the boys…
