We had a journalist from Mancunian Matters visit us this Tuesday to speak with us all about Jane’s recent award win as Manchester Coach of the Year! They did a little feature about us! Here is the video for you to enjoy.
Oh no we didn't... oh Mo we did!
A group of hardy runners, spotted as extras from Magnum PI, took to Heaton Park today to take part in the 10k MoRun! Well done to everyone who took part!
Club owner Jane wins prestigious Greater Manchester Coach of the Year Award
There were 10 shortlisted candidates for this award, who were named at the Manchester Sports Awards which took place at The Point at Old Trafford Cricket Ground. Jane was interviewed earlier this week ahead of the awards by BBC Radio Manchester to talk about the club as part of the awards process.
Jane says: “I am in absolute shock to have won. The other shortlisted nominees sounded fantastic and I didn’t think I stood a chance. I am truly grateful to be recognised in this way!”
As well as winning Coach of the Year, the #MileShyClub were again shortlisted in the Club of the Year category. The club has picked up three awards this year, the other two from the Trafford Sports Awards, but for us, this only compounds the success we feel every time one of our runners completes their first 5k. We love our club, and our members, and are thankful that these awards are reflecting our commitment to bringing the sport of running to everyone.
Running Into Cancer
This evening we hosted Tony Collier, an amazing man with an amazing running history and an amazing story. We heard how Tony had been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer and the work he is doing to raise awareness. A thoroughly moving talk, we would encourage everyone who has the opportunity to attend one of Tony’s speaking events.
You can find out more here: www.justgiving.com/970miles4men, contact Tony directly at tony.11laurel@virginmedia.com or find out more about prostate cancer here www.prostatecanceruk.org
We glowed in the dark in style!
Over 20 of us took to Heaton Park last night for a 5k with a difference! Think foam, uv paint and bright lights! We were awesome! #noonegetsleftbehind
The #MileShyClub runs away with success, picking up two awards at the Trafford Sports Awards
It was a night of celebration at the Trafford Sports Awards 2018! At the glitzy ceremony at Hotel Football, overlooking Manchester United football ground, we heard from inspiring attendees about their dedication to all types of sport. We were amazed, delighted, in fact, “blown away” by picking up the last two awards of the night - Coach of the Year for club founder, Jane Dennison, and Club of the Year.
Club founder Jane said on the night, “To simply be associated with other inspiring people in the room who give their lives to sport for others is truly an achievement for us in itself, but to walk away with two awards is simply fantastic. We were here at the Awards last year and came away with nothing, so to have our hard work recognised in this way is truly wonderful!”
UKFast Salford 10k proves the clue is in the name...
After this Summer’s sweltering heatwave, it felt immensely rewarding today for our runners as the majority of them achieved personal best times at the UKFast Salford 10k. After training in blistering temperatures throughout the Summer months, the hard work clearly paid off with sprint finishes on the last leg. Well done all!
#MileShyClub attends England Athletics Volunteer Pilot Workshop
Today, Jane from the #MileShyClub attended a workshop with other representatives from running clubs around the region to discuss how best to recruit, retain and reward volunteers. We value our volunteers hugely and were delighted to connect with like minded people! From learning about ‘volunteer trees’ and assigning volunteers tasks and not roles, we were able to brainstorm a variety of ideas which we will be using over the coming months. A worthwhile session!
#MileShyClub Sale expands to provide 1-2-1 support for those with mental health difficulties
Club founder Jane was appointed a Mental Health Champion with England Athletics last year, and the #MileShyClub is pleased to announce that Trish from the Club has now also been appointed a Mental Health Champion. We are starting a new mental health #runandtalk initiative here at the club which began at the weekend, and which Trish is going to be looking after!
We appreciate that for some of our runners, the thought of just getting to one of our sessions can seem a step too much. For most first timers, trying running for the first time can be daunting, but for some it might just feel impossible. Therefore, Trish is going to be on hand to give 1-2-1 support at our running sessions. Trish will answer any questions you might have ahead of the session, and she will be able to help you through your first steps with us as a club. Sound good? Trish has given us permission to share her email with you, and if you want to arrange an appointment with her for when you do come to see us, please do drop her a line. Trish is at: trishcanny@hotmail.com
We are keen to develop this further and are on the look out for anyone who wants to volunteer as a Mental Health Champion. Full training is provided, with the potential for further training (subject to our funding). If you would like to explore the possibility of being involved, please email the club at hello@mileshyclub.com
The #MileShyClub wins Post Office community competition
We were gobsmacked to be picked as one of 100 organisations in the UK to receive £1,000 of funding from the Post Office! Every penny of this award will be used to make sure we continue to deliver exceptional running coaching to our new and existing runners, across the country. Thanks so much to the judging panel for these much needed funds.
